Overview
Sable Mountain Lodge is small and intimate with emphasis placed on a true wilderness experience combined with warm hospitality. It is idyllically located in the Beho Beho hills just outside the boundary; about 20 mins drive from the airport. The lodge is set high on two peaks giving each of the eight comfortable ensuite stone cottages great views over the surrounding areas to the Uluguru Mountains. Construction has also just finished on five luxury tented bandas, two of which have private plunge pools.
Accommodation
• Eight stone cottages are spaciously situated over the Beho Beho hillside.
• Each cottage provides stylish accommodation, the design element of which is in keeping with the surrounding natural environment.
• Each contains full en-suite facilities, 24 hour solar lighting, a spring water supply and wonderful views from a private verandah over the forest towards the distant Uluguru mountains.
• The two luxury honeymoon suites, raised up high on wooden platforms, were thoughtfully designed to guarantee an unforgetable romantic bush experience with a small private water hole that is frequently visited by game.
Facilities
• The communal areas are pleasant and are well designed tucking in to the natural surroundings.
• The swimming pool itself is constructed over a natural spring and another spring feeds a waterhole overlooked by a variety of treehouses.
Activitiies
• Personalised game drives, walking safaris and and boat safaris on are all available from the lodge in the Selous. As the camp is outside the reserve boundary night drives are also possible.
• There are two restaurant and bar areas at Sable Mountain. The first is situated at the top of the hill and caters for the tented camp . It is situated near the swimming pool and lounging terrace affording fantastic views of the game, rich hills and the path through the valley used by animals.
• The second restaurant is based at the lower end of the camp and caters for the stone cottages. It is close to the tree house which overlooks a watering hole and is also just a few steps from our star gazing snug, the ideal place to observe the pristine night sky and experience the sounds of the bush.
Dining
• Both restaurants are open air and serve international cuisine, and have well stocked bars, the perfect setting to unwind after dinner and solar fridges ensures that drinks are cool.
• There is a natural spring water swimming pool situated at the top of the hill, close to the tented accommodation and honeymoon suites. It is the largest pool in Selous and offers a fine way to cool off between safaris.
Sable Mountain Lodge – Amani Tours View
The game viewing at the Sable Mountain Lodge on the South side where, there is a tree-house overlooking a waterhole is very good. Regular evening guests include buffalo, and zebra and in the months of November and December and the rare sable antelope emerge from the hills seeking water. The area is especially famed for it’s elephant population. As this is currently the only lodge in this area of the reserve, other vehicles are seldom encountered during game drives.
