Overview
The longest established and largest camp in Selous is located just next to the Mtemere Gate on the banks of the Rufiji River, in a point where the ample and tranquil river is animated by many and different species of animals.
The tented camp, situated in the heart of the reserve, is environmentally friendly and each tent is equipped with private bathroom and a veranda facing the river. The Italian influence of the management is strongly felt in both cuisine and clientele and wildlife often roams through the camp.
Accommodation • Twenty tents facing the sunset, with comfortable beds, walled en-suite facilities, mosquito netting and all of the comfortable equipment of a lodge.
• Each tent has a private veranda under a roof of local straw (makuti) that creates the perfect place for reading, writing or just resting in the shade.
• The tents are basic but comfortable with twin beds and ensuite toilet and shower.
Facilities
• A structure in the central part of the camp, shaded by a makuti roof, hosts the restaurant and library, all with a view of theRufiji River river and the sunset.
• A fly camp is situated about 45 minutes drive from the main camp on the shores of Lake Mzizimia. Fly Camping has to be booked in advance and children younger than 16 are not permitted.
• A covered swimming pool is situated in the camp, between reception and mess area.
Activities • Early morning and late afternoon game drives, walking safaris and a boat safari on the Rufiji River.
• Watch the constant flow of animals coming down to drink at the river offering a permanent show to visitors of the camp. The water is usually full of hundreds of hippos as well as groups of crocodiles that laze in the sun on the sandbanks in the river.
Dining
• The restaurants offer a well stocked bar and international cuisine. The safari chef prepares exotic bush cuisine for the adventurous type.

The Rufiji River Camp is a vvery comfortable camp with a fantastic location that allows you opportunities to view wildgame from your tent. Excellent value for the medium budget range but none of the fancy extras which can pump up the costs like other camps.
