Overview
Beho Beho Camp was the first bush camp to be sited in the Selous Game Reserve in the highlands so as to enjoy the 'cooling breezes' from which its name derives. Always designated as a 'private camp' it has fiercely protected its individuality and privileged location as one of the most 'magical' places in safari Africa. Located in the western region of Selous on the plains looking out towards Lake Tagalala, this is one of the few camps NOT situated on the Rufiji river. However the panoramic views and procession of wildlife do not make this a problem. There also some World War I trenches where you can still find scattered artifacts, the grave of Frederick Courtney Selous - after whom the park is named – and some lovely hot springs set in a patch of riparian woodland where you might fancy a swim.
Accommodation • Recently renovated after years of neglect the 8 stone cottages are very spacious and well furnished to the point of excess.
• The cottages are open faced and have their own telescopes for game viewing from comfortable chairs inside the cottage.
• The open air showers are superbly constructed from local stone and wood and the general feel which makes Beho Beho different from other camps is this is more like a small cottage than a room to sleep in.
Facilities
• A small swimming pool is located near the central building and a waterhole attracts animals throughout the day.
• The huge central dining area and bar is furnished along the lines of an old hunting lodge complete with a full sized billiards table, deep leather chairs and Persian rugs.
Activities
• Beho Beho's experienced guides will plan your safari programme, whether you need time to relax and be pampered or need to do a 10kms game walk before breakfast in the bush. From sunrise to sunset, from early morning tea to sundowner a Beho Beho safari is planned to your requirements.
• The Beho Beho Camp is a luxurious base camp from which to explore on by 4X4 game drives, expertly guided walking safaris and boat safaris on Lake Tagalala. The walking safaris particularly in this region are highly recommended.
Dining
• Meals can be taken from the main table, one of the several lookout posts in the main building or under the stars. Beho Beho's breakfast is usually fruit, fresh bread and a full cooked breakfast with eggs of your choice.
• Lunch is served at around 1pm and is a variety of hot and cold dishes such as fresh salads, Swahili dishes and light curries. Dinner is served in a few different locations in the camp and is a 3-course affair.
Beho Beho Camp Selous – Amani Tours View
The cCamp has been recently renovated and is in a scenic location. With its extravagance, reminiscent of a traditional colonial hunting lodge, the camp has created the true 'essence' of a safari refuge, for safari travellers who have 'been there and done that' throughout the big game countries of Africa. Management and guiding staff has a very strong Zimbabwean and South African influence.
