The Prison Island Tour is full day tour and is a short boat trip (about 30 min). Chumbe Island commonly known as Prison Island with its famous giant tortoises. A traditional wooden dhow will bring you on a 20 minutes ride to Prison Island. Although the strucures on the island were originally built to be a prison, a private detention for disobedient slaves, it was never operational. It was eventually used as a quarantine of slaves from Eastern Africa. Today the island is a small tourist resort. You will be guided on a short Tour of Prison Island around the historic prison and see the remnants of these buildings and observe the endangered giant tortoises, which are under strict conservation. After your trek, you will be served food and drink on a sand bank , and have time to swim and snorkel in the coral reefs of the aquamarine waters. You can also spend some time sunbathing, swimming, snorkelling, or walking around to see tortoises and peacocks.At dusk, the return boat trip offers a stunning view of as your boat enters the dockings.
