Overview
Tembo Hotel is an old fashioned and friendly hotel, surrounded by historic buildings on the seafront in . The hotel, converted from a 19th Century building, has two wings - one decorated in typical style and the other in modern western style. The building has functioned in many ways over the years. It seerved as the American Consulate in 1834 until 1884 when it become the premises of Cowasjee Dinshaw, which was a famous trading company in the western Indian Ocean. Its name is till seen on the one of the main entrance of the hotel. The hotel has a spacious romantic lounge facing the Indian Ocean.

This is a modestly priced hotel in the middle of Stone Town. Although conservative, the atmoshphere around it really will put you in a romatic mood. It's perfect for honeymooners or couples before or after a mainland safari.
