Overview
Palahala Luxury Camp is situated on Katavi National Park's grassy flood plain where for nine months each year provides the pinnacle of African adventure with an unrivalled number and variety of animals. As recently as 2001, fewer than 100 visitors had ever been here, promising Palahala guests the most exclusive seasonal safari experience in Africa. Palahala overlooks a pool and rapids on a river in Katavi, over an hour’s drive to the nearest camp and with more a feel of wilderness than almost any other lodge in Africa. Katavi is in the south-western region of Tanzania, just over the mountains from Lake Tanganyika and although buffalo mass in herds of thousands and hippo and crocodiles fill the rivers, hardly anyone makes the long journey to visit. The rewards for those who do are exceptional for this is Africa of fifty years ago and the game and park bear very little sign of human habituation. The wilderness and the wonderfully-run camp contrast and comliment each other so well that each is thrown into greater relief as a result - the principle of the luxury safari.

Accommodation
• Fitting in perfectly with its natural surroundings the camp consists of eight spacious bedrooms that are luxuriously furnished and well spread out along the river.

•Huge beds, writing desk, wardrobes, verandah seating and en suite bucket shower bathrooms are all the luxurious comforts one needs when hot water is always to hand and a bottle of perfectly chilled house wine is conveniently within reach.

• Hot water is available on demand and butlers are on hand to attend to your every need. Each tent has its own spacious veranda with comfortable armchairs overlooking the African bush.

Facilities
• There is an enormous, custom-made mess tent and boma. A spacious dining tent with lounge, bar and library and open terrace overlooking the river is nearby.

• Suppers served under the stars or in the mess are preceded by apertifs in the boma and accompanied by lion booms and hippo grumblings.

Activities
• Each day brings a new adventure as experienced guides take you on morning and afternoon game drives or bushwalks, followed by breakfast in the bush or sundowner cocktails on the banks of the river.

• Experienced chefs create mouth-watering delicacies to tease your taste buds.

• Delicious breakfast buffets are presented in candle-warmed terracotta and accompanied with fruit, cereals and juice.
