Overview
Chada Katavi Camp is a camp with great character in an exceptional location on game rich Chada flood plain. In many ways this is the definitive bush camp and a place to immerse yourself in the wild as nowhere else. Chada was originally built by Roland and Zoe Purcell to be a private safari camp, a place to escape to in the middle of nowhere. Today it's had a substantial upgrade from it's original very basic form, but critically, it retains it's spontaneous, pioneering feel. Because of its amazingly remote location in Katavi, Chada has to be one of the most exciting safari camps in Tanzania.
Accommodation
•
Chada 's unique character is a stylish, well designed camp with six very spacious campaign tents that are immaculate khaki canvas with leather and brass fittings.
• Each tent is placed in the shade of a large tree (the camp sits in a grove of acacia and tamarinds) with views out onto Chada flood plain.
• The beds, with head-boards made of suede and wood are very comfortable. There's a writing desk, and leather hanging shelves for you to put your clothes in.
• A private bathroom sits a short distance behind each tent. Here the set up is traditional safari style - a bucket shower, provides 20 litres of hot water, or cold if you prefer.
Facilities
• During the day, you can relax on your bed, resting, reading, while occasionally checking for game outside. If you choose to keep the tent zipped up , you still have the great view as the tents have wrap-around mosquito net windows.
Activities
• One of the most enjoyable ways to see Katavi is by a combination of Landrove and walking safaris, accompanied by an armed ranger. This way you can drive for as long as you like and get out to creep up to animals when you feel like it.
• At Chada, a private vehicle can be organised for $150 per day. Flexibility is the key here at Chada, you can take morning and evening drives or head off all day with picnics.
Dining
• It's a simple affair with a long dining table, so everyone tends to eat together. Food is really good here, and as with many of these really small bush camps you experience a unique blend of African bush cuisine with a taste of modernity.
Chada Katavi Camp – Amani Tours View
Chada Katavi Camp, though basic, is a comfortable and utterly exhilarating lodging experience. It can be a fantastic contrast to serious luxury, for a single night, or can be your mobile camp on a seven-day walking safari. This is something everyone should try while on an African safari.
