Sand River Lodge
Sand River - Selous
Sand River - Selous

Overview
Sand River Lodge is a luxury camp situated in the remote south west region of the Selous Game Reserve, away from the main tourist trails on the banks of the Rufiji River. It is a smart, permanent camp stylishly designed in chunky dark wood and stone flagstones with views over a wide and dramatically rocky stretch of the Rufiji River. Accommodation at Sand Rivers Selous is in spacious open-fronted cottages made of stone and thatch, and raised up on the banks of the Rufiji with amazing views out across the river.

Accommodation
• Eight exclusive open fronted cottages overlooking the Rufiji River. Style without the pretension, the cottages have been built from local materials which blend together naturally in a fusion of stone and wood.

• The cottages consist of five standard rooms, and two suites, and a new one-bedroom private house - The Rhino House.

• The bedrooms, with large and comfortable beds, are open fronted and the en-suite bathrooms are bush-deluxe. And throughout, the cooling sounds of the river run.

Facilities
• The swimming pool has a surreal location on the edge of the river.

Activities
Selous safari game drives, boating and walking safaris are organised inside the park. Fly camping, nature treks and birdwatching are also arranged.

Dining
• A central dining area and several peaceful sitting areas overlook the Rufiji river. The main mess and dining area is set close to the river, and is a generous space. It's grand yet cosy, the atmosphere is familiar, and the service at-your-whim.

Sand River Selous – Amani Tours View
This luxury camp is set on a bend in the Rufiji just down from Steiglers Groge. It is still the best located camp in the Selous as it has almost private access to the surrounding area, being set away from the other camps. The only setback with the camp is that it is in need of a bit more attention to detail, and for the money, we would recommend Beho Beho or the Selous Safari Camp.
