Overview
Nduara Loliondo Camp is a semi-permanent tented safari camp which moves between two locations within the Loliondo Game Controlled Area, on the eastern side of the . In each location, it has a partnership with a small Maasai community who benefit directly from visitors to the camp. In the north, between mid June and December, the camp is in Ololosokwan, which lies in amongst the large hills to the north of Lobo. For the other half of the year, the camp has a similar arrangement with Piyaya, which is close to the Gol Mountains and Sanjan Gorge further south. Moves are timed to coincide with the wildebeest migration as it moves between its northern and southern ranges. Nduara Loliondo works well in conjunction with its sister camps in the Park. Designed to celebrate nomadic cultures around the world; the Mongolian Gers or Yurts, and Tanzania’s own Maasai bomas were the inspiration for Nomad Tanzania’s new Serengeti camp. The 12 bed “yurt” camp has replaced Loliondo Safari Camp, and continues to move between North & South Loliondo (the eastern boundary of the Serengeti) to give clients the best of what this stunning area has to offer.
Accommodation
• Nduara Loliondo has 6 tents (now yurts), the same as the original Loliondo Safari Camp. Each yurt at has a private bathroom, in a separate, smaller round tent, off the main yurt. This has a short-drop compost toilet with a proper seat.
• The shower cubicle is an unusual zinc-metal design in the centre of the bathroom, against the back of which is a metal shelf with the sink set into it. The shower head protrudes from the central dome of the tent.
Facilities
• There is a dining yurt and a separate lounge/library yurt with extensive African safari books and guides.
Activities
• Loliondo is a Maasai community area, so safari walks accompanied by Maasai Morani add a fascinating cultural dimension to the experience.
• The emphasis in both these areas is on walking safaris, and night drives, neither of which are possible with the Serengeti itself, and also on cultural visits with the Maasai.
• Game viewing is good throughout the year and as well as game drives and walks, Loliondo is one of the few parts of northern Tanzania where you will be able to do night drives.
Dining
• The comforts, food and service are of a high standard here without being too luxurious. The menus consist of traditional African meals and continental dishes and African safari cuisine.
Nduara Loliondo Camp – Amani Tours View
The formally Loliondo Safari Camp has recently undergone a refurbishment and has emerged looking somewhat different - Mongolian Yurts somewhat surprisingly replacing safari tents - and bearing a shiny new name; “Nduara Loliondo”. Rest assured though that the change in style of accommodation hasn't effected the really very traditional quality of experience that this camp offers. Overall, this is a truly superb camp, especially for those wanting to stay away from the crowds and focus on walking safari and the cultures that live alongside the Serengeti. However, the camp is very seasonal for the migration so must be booked with care if the migration is what you are searching for. The fact that it's so small, taking a maximum of only 12 guests at a time, means that the level of service the staff can provide is exceptional by any standards. In all things - food, service and equipment, the focus at Nduara Loliondo Camp is on quality and attention to detail.
