Overview
Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is located on the rim of the . One of the most luxurous lodges in Tanzania, the lodge's inspired design is influenced by the Maasai mud-and-stick manyatta (homestead). It consists of three different "camps" within Crater Lodge, all of which operate independantly of each other. Each suite's opulent design blends with African art elements in unexpected harmony. Accommodation at the lodge is in very luxurious individually designed ensuite rooms. The lodge
employs its own craftsmen, who work to create the chandeliers and endless imaginative wood, glass and brass trimmings and fittings seen in each of the Tanzanian Conservation Corporation properties, and who give this one their elaborate and innovative designs.
Without doubt, the Ngorongoro Crater Lodge is one of Africa's architecturally most spectacular safari lodges.
Accommodation
• The three intimate camps conisist of 30 rooms divided up in such a way that you don't feel part of a crowded lodge. Each has its own dining area and bar.
• The rooms at the lodge all have a private deck, ensuite bathroom and private butler service. Each room has a shower and a bath (some rooms have sunken baths).
Facilities
• The facilities include a central living area, private viewing decks overlooking the awesome crater and the African gift shop and art gallery
Activities
• The main focus of a safari at the lodge is naturally the Ngorongoro Crater. As well as being able to sit on your veranda at Crater Lodge, watching the wildlife far below you, this is an excellent base from which to see the crater up close.
• Often an evening walk can be the perfect compliment to half a day game drive (these days 6 hours is the maximum amount of time allowed in the Ngorongoro Crater. Walking is not allowed in the Crater itself, but there are numerous other areas where it is possible to get on foot.
Dining
• The domed dining room, with its fireplace, crystal, silver and massive wooden platters, makes every meal a special occasion. Delicious Pan-African cuisine may also be enjoyed on the outdoor dining deck.
