Overview
Crater Forest Tented Camp is a new tented lodge is located at Karatu, Tanzania, close to the , set a ten kilometre scenic drive away from the main road. Lying in a coffee plantation, the lodge offers fantastic views over the Ngorongoro Highlands. Due to its size you will find personalised and tentative service.
Accommodation

The eco-friendly lodge is operated as an small scale lodge with only 15 tented rooms, all on platforms with magnificent views over the Ngorongoro Forest.

The rooms are spacious and all have ensuite bathrooms with hot showers and toilets. For those chilly upland nights enjoy the warmth of your own African-style firepot.
Facilities
• The lodge has a couple of large dining rooms, a bar, a small curio shop and plenty of both indoor and outdoor seating areas. From March 2008, the swimming pool will be completed.
Activities

The lodge arranges day wildlife watching and game driving Tanzania safaris to the floor.
• Morning wildlife walks around the lodge and hiking adventures to and Empakaai Crater in the nearby highlands.
• Visits to a selection of authentic Maasai villages, all of which belong to the national cultural tourism program and allow unique visits to Maasai homesteads.
Dining
• The restaurant offers lunch a la carte, and for dinner a buffet, which caters also for vegetarians.

The lodge also has a bar with a selection of soft drinks, south african wines, locan and international beers, and spirits.

When we last visited, it was very clear that the staff are very proud of the lodge and the levels of community involvement. If you're traveling with your own safari guide and 4WD, then this good-value lodge is incredibly convenient for visiting either Lake Manyara and Ngorongoro Crater.
