Overview
Ngare Sero Mountain Lodge is an old German colonial farmhouse in a beautiful location in Usa River 15 km East of and about 20 minutes from Kilimanjaro International Aiport (KIA). The lodge is situated on the foothills of surrounded by richly verdant foliage on the lower slopes of the mountain. The farmhouse was completed in 1908, and was built by a retired German Schutztruppe officer named Augustus Leue, who chose to remain here with his family rather than returning to Germany. He planted rubber trees and food crops, raised cattle, and built the magnificent spring-water-filled lake at the heart of the grounds. The most attractive aspect of Ngare Sero is the enchanting gardens that flourish on all sides.
Accommodation

Accommodation is in a recently renovated two-storey building with heavy architecture and solid mountain farm charm. Chunky stone fireplaces and timber beams give the rooms a cosy feel.
• Rooms are comfortable and stylish and this is a good place to overnight before or after a safari.
Facilities

There is not much in terms of facilities at the farmhouse with the exception of nature itself. At least 200 species of bird have been spotted among the buds and branches of this profusion of trees and flowers.

A trout stream in the midst allows fishermen to cast a line for their supper, and this unusual atmosphere is completed by troupes of Colobus monkeys chattering in the trees.
Activities
• Guests can take nature walks or go bird watching around the flowered gardens. They can also explore the surroundings or follow the nature trail up the mountain side.
• There is also a trout lake on the property therefore allowing guests to have a go and catching supper.
• Take a game drive at the near by or take a tour of Cultural Heritage to purchase wood carvings and Tanzanite gemstones.

Meals at the farmhouse are simple continental and international cuisine with the occasional traditional African dish, all served with fine wine and aromatic coffee in the dining room or outside in the garden area.

This lodge has quite a bit of style with some really spectacular gardens and a lake which attracts a affair bit of birdlife, including fish eagles, which is a serious bonus in this part of the world. Built as a mountain lodge this lodge oozes charm and is a really unique option for the surrounding area. Colobus monkeys are abound and with trecks up Mt. Meru and the surrounding area easily available, this is a truly great mountain lodge.
